The SportsBall is SportsAid’s annual gala charity dinner, raising money for the next generation of British athletes.

This event was held in the Park Lane Hilton in London and I was the main entertainment, DJing for three and half hours.

Attended previously by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, SportsAid’s Patron, and with the charity celebrating its 40th anniversary, the SportsBallTM 2017 is reaching higher and making more of a difference to young sports people than ever before. SportsAid helps the next generation of British sports stars by giving them financial support and recognition during the critical early stages of their careers.

The event was attended by over 160 British Olympians and Paralympians and another 1500 guests and sponsors, quite a few of whom were not drinking, so I had quite a task in front of me according to the sound guys. Not your usual corporate event then!! They even had wheelchair basketball for the able in one of the anti-rooms.

The music I played was a mixture of disco and chart tunes with the Gypsy Kings thrown in for good measure and despite the sound engineers remarks I had them dancing on the tables…

It was quite surreal to see Torvill and Dean dancing in front of me and not on ice.

Anyway, this is what was sent to me afterwards by the organiser  “Thank you once again for all your help on Thursday, I hope you enjoyed the event and got back safely! The guests were dancing until the end so thank you!”

So all in all a fun evening at the Park Lane Hilton, London that raised a lot of money for our future generation of sports stars from blind skiers to runners and cyclists. It was a night I really enjoyed and was privileged to be part of.
